“No one, the performers included, really knew what to expect of Broad, and its triumph was greater than we could have imagined. As the crowd responded with a standing ovation, Conway's vision was rewarded. Her concept deserves to evolve into a sustained series” - THE AUSTRALIAN Martin Jones
After last year’s maiden voyage with its receptive audiences, standing ovations and rave reviews, producer Deborah Conway decided she’d better do it all again.
Broad returns this year with a new line up. Five of Australia’s most engaging singer/songwriter/instrumentalists will be on stage together singing each other’s songs & talking about what makes them tick. With a variety of different voices and singing styles from all over the country, Broad will be a truly broad experience.
The consummate Deborah Conway, impassioned roots/blues guitar player Mia Dyson, Ella Hooper from the multi platinum selling Killing Heidi, the quirky Poperatic stylings of Kate Miller-Heidke and Golden Guitar winning, country music sensation Melinda Schneider will combine their extraordinary individual talents for audiences in Darwin, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Perth this August.
Following on from last year's incredible combinations of style & performance, this years line up promises to again showcase the amazing depth & warmth of contemporary songwriters in Australia. This is Broad.

MIA DYSON
When Mia Dyson packed her guitars, her band and a portable recording studio into her car and headed out to a friends’ mud brick house in Daylesford Victoria, she had no idea she was about to make one of the most talked about debut albums of 2003. Cold Water was nominated for an ARIA award and propelled the then 22 year-old into a continuous touring schedule both in Australia and overseas. Taking in major festivals such as East Coast Blues and Roots, Fall’s, Port Fairy, Womadelaide, NXNE and The Edinburgh Festival, Mia has been whole heartedly embraced by audiences and critics alike.
In 2005 she returned with her self-produced sophomore album Parking Lots, which was nominated for “Best Female Artist” and winner for “Best Blues and Roots album” at that years ARIA award ceremony. Also she has been recently crowned as Rhythms Magazine 2005 Artist of The Year cementing Mia’s place as one of Australia’s most exhilarating songwriters.
Mia Dyson is a unique artist who manages to walk the line between commercial success and credible, raw talent.
“Dyson has one of the most powerfully emotive female voices in the country.” The Age.
ELLA HOOPER
Ella went on to record 3 albums with chart topping singles, win a swag of Arias and the prestigious Apra songwriter of the Year award of which she is the youngest recipient.
These days Ella is looking forward to exploring different kinds of songwriting and expanding the scope of her musical experience. She is thrilled that Broad can be that first foray.

MELINDA SCHNEIDER
For several years now Melinda has been a leading light of the ‘new-breed’ Australian Country artists. In a career which began with a stage debut at the age of three, (appearing with her mother Mary Schneider) she has become a sublime singer and one of our most popular performers. But it is through her assured and accomplished song writing that she has really discovered her true voice.
Three albums and six years on, she has won numerous awards, four CMAA Golden Guitars – including 2005 Album Of The Year with ‘Family Tree’ and APRA Song Of The Year for the song ‘Real People’.
Melinda’s songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as John Farnham, Jimmy Little and US country artist Elizabeth Cook. She now divides her time between Sydney and Nashville, where she enjoys a growing reputation as a popular and prolific writer.
